Painter, ceramicist and printmaker Peter Wray studied at Strawberry Hill, Twickenham, at Goldsmiths College, London, and at Leeds Metropolitan University. Although initially trained as a painter, he extended his practice into printmaking in the early 1970s and, in later years, into ceramics. Due to this background in painting and the fact that he is largely self-taught as a printmaker and as a ceramic artist, his work is strongly influenced by the nature of materials and process, integrating graphic, painterly and sculptural methodology, and these qualities are very much evident in his distinctive style.
Over recent years, he has worked extensively on oil and mixed-media painting with partner, Judy Collins.
He is a four time national prizewinner and his work has been exhibited widely both in Britain and abroad, including the USA, Australia and Japan.
Wray is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE).
