Laura Jefferson

Drawing, painting

As an artist, my work has always naturally centred around my passion for the natural world.  I love the beauty of the landscapes around us in Cornwall, and am always looking to share this through my art.  From the sweeping coastlines to the hidden forests and valleys, there is so much inspiration, with the changing light and colours of the seasons, and the shifting textures of nature.

My greatest joy, however, is celebrating the animal world.  The incredible variety of wildlife, each species with their own individual natures, while still in a perfect balance with their environment.  Saying this, domesticated animals are also hugely important to me, sharing and enriching our lives every day with their comfort and friendship.

Usually working with oils or acrylics, with each painting I try to capture a moment, uncover a story, and find an expression to create a connection between the subject and you, the viewer.  Overall, I hope to deepen our understanding of the individual nature and personality of each subject I paint.

The studio I will be working in is set in gorgeous natural surroundings, right in the centre of a 37 acre farm which is maintained for wildlife, a really tranquil and inspiring place to visit.  The studio itself is a lovely log cabin, with big windows looking out over the fields, and decking at the front to enjoy tea and cake while you take in the artwork and beautiful views.

I will be working in the studio throughout the Open Studios event, and will be delighted to chat about my work and process, or just give you space to have a quiet browse of the artwork.  I will have a range of work on display, with original paintings, signed limited edition prints and greetings cards.

I also teach acrylic landscape painting from the studio from June onwards, so this is a great opportunity to come and see the space, and find out more if you are interested in joining a class.

Please feel free to contact me on the details below if you have any questions at all, and follow me on instagram or facebook to keep up to date with what I'm up to.

I can't wait to welcome you!

Studio information

The studio is set in the centre of Tregrove Farm, just down the hill in the valley next to Lanreath.

Driving in from Taphouse direction, take the right hand turn before Lanreath, signposted Polruan and Bodinnick. Take this road for about 500 meters, then turn down the little lane to your right, opposite the turning to Lanreath village hall. At the bottom of the hill, turn left into our driveway; you may be lucky enough to spot our llamas or rescue donkeys as you enter the property.

There are cats and chickens roaming freely on the farm, along with our friendly dogs Florence and Saskia, who are always happy to say hello to our visitors.  Please keep your speed to a minimum as you enjoy the approach down the driveway, looking out for new furry and feathery friends along the way.

Please drive through the farmyard and follow the signs to the car park at the back of the stables.  From the car park there are signposts to the studio, a short walk across a sloped grassy field.  The studio is in a lovely log cabin, with 2 steps to access.  Toilet facilities are in a separate log cabin, with 2 steps to access.
