Ann Oxley

Hand built ceramics, collage, imaginative boxes

I create hand built ceramics. Women, horses and birds are favourite subjects. My pieces have a timeless quality, are objects of mystery and imagination! From 1970-74 I attended Hornsey College of Art in London where I studied jewellery design and making. After the Diploma show the Royal Mint asked me to design the coinage for Botswana, much to my surprse! I then spent twelve years producing hand painted wooden cats which I sold at Covent Garden Market - I painted around 12,000 cats! I decided on a change of course and a degree in archaeology at UCL followed. I think the study of ancient artefacts has influenced my style of ceramics.

I have had a solo exhibition of my collages and installations at the Salthouse Gallery in St Ives and shared exhibitions at The Crypt Gallery and St Ives Art Club. As well as ceramic pieces I make framed collage and enjoy using found objects, often in interesting old boxes. The prices of my work range from £25-£180

This year I am hosting Open Studios in my home which I hope will add interest for visitors as I mostly work at home - in my kitchen!
