Jackie Hollingsbee

Jackie spent her childhood in a lovely village on the north coast of Cornwall. After studying at Bristol, she was fortunate to travel extensively and live in South East Asia for many years, where painting became a part of life. Art agian featured on return to Scotland and Shetland, where she continued with painting and also pottery.

Return to Cornwall enabled study at St Ives and Penzance Schools of Painting and latterly at Newlyn School of Art.

Now living near the River Fal, she works from her home studio and feels lucky to be part of a Critical Analysis group, with a Newlyn School of Art leader.

Jackie has had several solo exhibitions and continues to sell through commercial galleries and from her studio.

Her work has been selected and sold at several exhibitions as an associate member of The Penwith Gallery.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Jackie Hollingsbee works mostly on canvas, in oils, acrylic and mixed media. She is fascinated by textures and the way impasto and various materials may be used for collage integrally, to express sense of place.

Use of vibrant colour and bold shapes is a frequent feature of more recent works. The Cornish coastal environment with wonderful cliffs, beaches, creeks and harbours and natural and man-made objects, often maritime, frequently inform her work. Nature’s gradual reclaiming the latter over the seasons, is a recurring theme.

The special coastal light, with big skies, reflections and expanses or glimpses sea or creeks often inspires her work.

Over the years her work has moved into semi- and fully abstract art, expressing her feelings about form, function and human impact.

Her intuitive process carries the work forward, never quite knowing where each journey will go
