David Cottrell
David has lived and painted in and around Penzance for several years. He has a BA degree from Falmouth School of Art in Fine Art and a MFA  degree from Newcastle University. He was awarded the ‘Painting Prize’ for his work in the degree shows at Falmouth and a ‘David Murray Studentship’ from the RA. He was also ben a regional prize winner in the ‘Discerning Eye’ shows. He has exhibited widely. 
David was an Art Educator for many years. The later part of this was in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi. He returns every year to the UAE where his  daughter and grandchildren live. His work is sometimes derived from this experience.
Working thematically, David’s paintings attempt to convey a personal feeling for the figure, ‘Heads’ or environments Over the last few years, the principle subject of his work has been the figure and 'Heads'.Currently, predominant sizes are 90cm square or 60cm sq. He does smaller paintings on small panels. Drawings are usually A3 and are generally 'mixed media'
David seeks a ‘credible inperfection’. His paintings attempt to bring into being a sense of the transient,'half-seen', ambiguous nature of reality and experience. He finds beauty in the transient and the fleeting made tangible and he sees himself as an artist who attempts to portray the sensation of occupying  and moving within our physical bodies
