Gail Cooper

Ceramics

A self-taught ceramicist working from my garden studio in Trevaunance Cove. I began wheel throwing in March 2022 using St Agnes clay sourced less than a mile away. I create both functional ware and display pieces inspired by my home on the North Cornish coast. My minimal forms reflect the natural beauty of my surroundings, from the tapered lines of historic engine houses and chimney stacks, symbols of Cornwall’s mining heritage, to the smooth, weathered pebbles of the cove. My glazes and saggar fired work echo the colors of St Agnes, drawing from the sea, seaweed, ferns, granite, and slate.
