My abstract paintings reflect the stark ancient beauty of fragile environments. Much of my work has the Cornish coast as its backdrop. The underlying rocks are a constant influence, recalling my early career as a geologist. My process in painting is an exploration of the passage of time: the ancient rocks beneath layers of impermanence and changing elements. I use oil paints with pigment and rock powders, and other media, to embed a sense of age into my work; tools, rags, found objects and my hands create texture. I am a Member at St Ives Society of Artists and welcome visitors all year round to my studio.
