My work is inspired by the Cornish landscape. I work from sketches and memories of places I haved visited, taking the elements, exploring the literal qualities, and by a process of deconstructing and reassembling, the elements and structure are retained in an abstracted form without losing all recognition of the place. I often work with monoprints and small studies to explore the composition and colour. Mark making is an important part of my process from start to finish, and it leads to a journey or erasing and layering. I feel it is important for the viewer to interpret the work through their own perception, but still feel a sense of place in the finished work.
