Don Taylor

Woodworking

I started working with Driftwood, primarily, over thirty years ago, spending a lot of time scrambling down cliffs and over rocks, collecting wood and taking photographs.

I made boxes, mirrors and furniture, plus many other things in-between.

I now, also, work with native woods like Blackthorn, Hazel, Hawthorn, Oak and Yew, or re-claimed woods, turning vases, making wooden fish, motorbikes, boxes, spoons, surfboards and skateboards as well as any other ideas that might pop into my head.

About twenty years ago, along side the woodwork, I started working the beautiful Cornish Serpentine Stone, unique to the Lizard Peninsula, making sculptures, rough and smooth, axe heads, spheres, hearts, pendants and jewellery.

I work in a small workshop in the corner of my small garden, in a den of dust and cobwebs....

Inspiration, naturally, comes from around the Lizard Peninsula, the shape of a stone or the twist of wood. Many a walk through the seasons, the cliffs and rocky shorelines, sands and pebbles, the softness of the valleys, or the mooding moorlands, woodlands, river walks and open heathlands.
